Peter Evans (1952-2020)

Jun 3, 2020 | Obituaries

Article by Rodney Winwood

In recent times I have informed my fellow shooters and friends of the sad passing of so many great shooters, each time it seems to get harder to put into words you feelings and thoughts, the longer you have known a person the harder it is to put words to paper this is no exception.

On the 20 of May 2020, Peter Vincent Evans passed away due to illness, Peter had been in respite leading up to his passing.
Peter took up target shooting back in 1976-7 at Queenstown when he shifted back to Devonport he introduced his father Terry to shooting, both were members of the Devonport/ Latrobe Rifle Club. In 1980 I joined the club and became close friends with Peter and Terry a friendship that has lasted for 40 years.

Peter was a quiet person on and off the range, when he wasn’t shooting he would be off having a fish at the lakes or the closest river, trying to master the art of fly fishing.

Peter enjoyed his shooting competing in open prize meets and many team shoots, he was always a strong team shooter in our DRA N4 teams matches. Not only did Peter shoot with his father Terry he also shot with his younger brother Tim, they all travelled by car from the mainland to Western Australia and shot in the Queens Prize.

Peter met his wife to be Dianne 30 years ago and have enjoyed many trips away fishing and having a go at farming for truffles and angora goats. When Peter and Dianne sold their farm at Barrington they moved to Ulverstone. Dianne also took up shooting and still remembers the day she beat Peter and liked to remind him from time to time.

When Peter wasn’t on the range or having a fish he spent time at the mens shed at Ulverstone making signs and other wood work projects. Peter decided for health reasons to stop shooting a hard decision to make but he continued to help out on the range with maintenance. Peter will be missed by all, from the Tasmanian Rifle Association, our thoughts and condolences to Dianne always there for Peter, father to Jason and Michael, step-dad to Suzzanne, Sharon, Helene and Rodney. Loved son of Terry and Barbara (dec.) Evans. Brother to Tim and Judy, Mary (dec), and Tracy.

Rest in Peace Peter, a pleasure to have known you.
