Member Update: Bondi Incident

The National Rifle Association of Australia acknowledges the tragic events at Bondi. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected. We also acknowledge the courage of police, first responders and members of the public who assisted in the immediate response.

The NRAA condemns this violence in the strongest possible terms. There is no place for terrorism, antisemitism, or any form of hatred in Australia.

This mater is being handled by NSW Police and Australia’s security agencies. While the investigation remains active and information is still emerging, it is not appropriate for the NRAA, or our State and Territory Associations, to speculate on the circumstances of the incident or on what measures may or may not be proposed by government.

We understand members will have questions about what this could mean for lawful sporting participation. We want to reassure you that the NRAA is taking this seriously and is doing the right work in the background.

What the NRAA is doing now

  • Monitoring verified information as it is released by relevant authorities.
  • Maintaining close contact with our State and Territory Associations so that communication with members is consistent, calm and responsible.
  • Liaising with other sport shooting organisations and industry leaders through the Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia (SIFA) to understand any emerging policy developments and any consultation processes, should they occur.
  • Preparing to respond constructively if and when any formal proposals are released.

The NRAA is the national governing body for fullbore long-range target rifle shooting. Our role is to steward a clear, trusted framework for safety, range conduct, rules and officiating across our sport.

If there is confirmed information to share, or if any formal consultation is opened, members will be updated through the usual State and Territory Association channels.

Yours sincerely,

Steve Bingley

Executive Officer
