The National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashley (Ash) Brunning as Sport Manager.
Ash brings a wealth of experience from more than 15 years in high-performance sport, spanning athlete development, competition management, and international team support.
Most recently, Ash has worked as a High-Performance Sport Strategy Consultant, partnering with National Sporting Organisations such as Australian Taekwondo to design athlete development frameworks, para-sport integration models, and coach development strategies. Prior to that, he served as Performance Pathways Manager at Australian Sailing, leading national programs, designing athlete categorisation models, and managing major pathway projects in collaboration with the AIS and state sporting systems.
Ash’s career also includes time as Queensland State Head Coach with the Queensland Academy of Sport, where he guided performance programs, identified and developed Olympians, and built strong partnerships with clubs, state institutes, and national bodies. He also competed as an athlete on the Australian Sailing Team, holding national and Asia-Pacific titles and representing Australia at world level.
With a professional background in strategy, leadership, and stakeholder engagement — supported by qualifications in international business and a wide range of high-performance sport leadership programs — Ash is well placed to lead NRAA’s sport portfolio.
His appointment signals an exciting step forward as NRAA works to enhance competitions, strengthen international representation, and support pathways for athletes, coaches, and officials. We welcome Ash to the NRAA team and look forward to the expertise and energy he will bring to our sport
