The weekend of 16 – 17 May marked the ninth Golden Bullet Prize Meeting. Organised and run by the Busselton-Bunbury Rifle Club since 2017, the Golden Bullet is arguably Western Australia’s premier long range competition, with seven matches over 700m – 900m held over two days.
50 competitors from all disciplines took part in the event which featured jack potting monetary prizes for a perfect score at each of the ranges. Three shooters, from various disciplines shared the first range prize of $500. By the final range, the incentive was $1000, but distance and flukey winds denied shooters from collecting. Apart from the perfect score incentive for each range, generous sponsorship contributed to significant cash prizes for the Daily Aggregate for each Discipline as well as First- Third place getters in the Grand Aggregate for each discipline.
All competitors were also treated to free lunch and dinner on Saturday as well as free water and soft drinks throughout the meeting.
Conditions were relatively benign each morning, but rear and variable fishtail breezes, then swinging across the range compounded the difficulty for all but the most able ‘wind whisperers’. Luckily, the forecast patches of rain held off both afternoons.
The overall winners of the Golden Bullet were:
TR: Shayne McDonald (Albany RC) – 448.58
F Standard: Cathy Cottrell (Beverley RC) – 535.49
F Open: Brett Bunyan (Boddington RC) – 539.59
F/TR: Walter Estermann (Beverley RC) – 523.26
Sporter (PCO): Tenzin Dick (Manjimup RC) – 450.64
