Nominations Close 26 April 2026

Captain’s Statement

Australia will be competing in the ICFRA Veterans Target Rifle World Championship Teams event in Bisley UK in July 2028 and I am honoured to be appointed the Team Captain for this match.

Veteran Eligibility:  A Competitor will be deemed a ‘Veteran’ if their sixtieth Birthday falls on, or before the day of the first Individual World Championship Match (25 July 2028).  Born on or before 25 July 1968!

Team Composition:

  • Team Captain
  • Team Adjutant (Manager)
  • Main Coach and 2 x Wind Coaches
  • 10 x Shooters and 2 x Reserves

            (Total = 17)

Aim:  To defend the World Veteran Team Championship title won by Australia in 2024 (also won this title in 2019).

Intent:

  • To have a cohesive team of 17 assemble at Bisley with coaches and shooters competing accurately and at their personal best on Monday 24 July 2028.
  • To represent Australia with honour while understanding the privilege of wearing Green & Gold.
  • To enjoy the experience and renew international shooting friendships.

Key Thoughts:

  • Veterans selected in the Australian Palma Team will be a member of the Veterans Team (should they wish).  Palma Team Captain (Jim Bailey) has agreed with this proposal.
  • A selection schedule, if required, will be developed once nominations and home locations are confirmed.  Any such schedule, including team training, is likely to be set around major domestic events (Kings Prizes) to minimise costs.  Veterans selected in the Palma Team will train as per the Palma Team training schedule.
  • Sights – English minute.
  • Barrels – Strategy yet to be determined.
  • Ammunition/projectile – Berger.
  • Team on-mound procedures will mirror the Palma Team drills.

Expected Expenses:

  • Uniforms:  Yet to be identified but will be kept to a minimum.
  • Barrels:  Any purchase and fitting with postage costs.
  • Ammo:  Purchase/production costs + freight costs to be shared (TBA).
  • Flights: To and from UK.
  • Accommodation: In UK (through until the end of the Palma Match [29-30 July] to support the Australian Palma Team).
  • Individual competition costs:  Imperial Meeting Entry fees (matches occur before 24 July). Individual WLRC fees (25-28 July).
  • Practice targets in Australia.

I encourage eligible NRAA TR members to nominate for this team and tackle the challenge ahead.  Please phone me on 0481 055953 should you wish to discuss relevant issues before nominating.
