NQRA 2021 Pennants Match, Townsville, 31 Jul-01 Aug’21.

BY Josh Cox

The NQRA hosted its 2021 Pennants match at the Townsville Marksman’s Rifle Club home range at Hervey Range, Townsville on the weekend of the 31 July and 01 August 2021. At the same time, NSW and South East Queensland were unfortunately enduring lockdown.

A minute’s silence was observed in memory of our much loved Lorraine Bell. The world was a better place when Lorraine was here.

Three districts competed: Cairns and Inland District, Mackay and Townsville. Each presented an F Open, F Standard and TR team. Over 50 shooters attended, six of whom were attending their first teams event.

The event took place with distances of 600, 800 and 900 metres in some very trying conditions. Gusting winds and horrendous mirage made the event challenging for the shooters and coaches.

The range has excellent powered and unpowered camping facilities, showers, toilet and large club house and kitchen. Dogs are most welcome (on a lead).

The results below speak for themselves. One characteristic of a Northern Queensland shooting event is the fantastic camaraderie and the forging of lasting friendships.

Thanks to Ralph Loesche for the photos of the winning teams.
