2025 Barry & Son Firearms Cup Successful

May 12, 2025 | Competitions, F Class, Member Association News, Open Prize Meetings, Sporter, Target, WA

By Peter Ridgway, Asst. Development Officer

The Perth Fremantle Rifle Club Barry and Son Cup on the 13th April was a rip snorter of an event. This was the third year of our competition and 46 shooters from far and wide took to the mound with many taking the opportunity to blow out our target centres. The competition format included rolling through 2×10 and 2×15 shot applications all at 600m over eight targets. This meant everyone was back in the mess hall for lunch and presentations. Country shooters then had plenty of time to make their way home.

The focus of the competition is on sporter class although a healthy 16 F class and TR shooters joined in the fun. Attendance records from clubs around the state indicates that Sporter class is the fastest growing discipline. The following first to fourth place winners took home cash prizes and accessories from our sponsors Barry and Son and Baretta Australia.

Sporter Production Class Open winners were Martin McCarthy who didn’t drop a shot on 250.30, Brett Boneham 249.28, David Zeller 247.26 and Grant Palmer 247.22

FTR winners were David Bliss 288.16, Hendric Laursen 265.90 and Mark Prince 265.80

The TR winner was Stephen Crago 235.16

There were 3 F Class winners for the highest cold bore shot (first sighter) each taking home $70. 15 Sporter shooters took home prizes for scorimng a V on their first sighter. Jarrod Bell and David Bliss took home a prize for highest number of Xs while Martin McCarthy won the Sporter / TR prize for the most Vs.

The club offered a full weekend of shooting with centrefire shooting in the morning and the usual all metro clubs shooting at 600m in the afternoon. The Saturday afternoon also included the second annual competition between Perth Fremantle and the Yarloop Rifle Club. The individual PC shoot out was won by Yarloop’s Will Scott with a 95.7 up against Perth Freo’s Johan Maude’s 91.6

The scores for the four person teams for PCO were for Yarloop: Jake vanden Elzon 92.8, Jim Gow 95.10, Ross Turner 95.4 and Quentin Rae 94.8, and for Perth Fremantle: Alex Timms 100.15, Brett Boneham 98.7, David Zeller 97.10 and Ron Lean 90.4 The Inter-Club Challenge is set to grow in the future with plans to include other clubs wishing to enter teams.
