The National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA) is transitioning Range Officer (RO) accreditation and re-accreditation to a new national online system, aligned to the updated RO Handbook and delivered via our learning management system (LMS).
To ensure continuity while this system is brought online, the NRAA has implemented a one-off transitional arrangement for all Range Officers whose current NRAA RO accreditation expires at any time during the 2026 calendar year.
Interim coverage for 2026 expiries
If your NRAA RO card shows an expiry date in 2026, you will be regarded by the NRAA as a current, accredited Range Officer until 31 December 2026, provided you remain a financial member and are not otherwise suspended or removed from office under NRAA or State/Territory rules.
This interim arrangement is recorded in the NRAA’s central register and is intended to keep range operations and competitions running smoothly during the transition to the LMS-based process.
Letter of coverage
A Letter of Coverage is available to confirm interim RO status for those affected.
- Range Officers should request the Letter of Coverage through their State/Territory Rifle Association (your State/Territory will provide it as required).
- Clubs, competition organisers and Range Committees may accept the combination of:
- the existing NRAA RO card showing an expiry date in 2026, and
- the Letter of Coverage,
as evidence of current RO status during the interim period.
If there is any doubt about an individual’s status, the State/Territory Rifle Association or the NRAA office can confirm details against the central register.
What happens next
Once the new LMS re-accreditation module is live (target mid-2026), Range Officers covered by this interim arrangement will be directed to complete the online re-accreditation process before 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027, RO currency will be determined by completion of the LMS-based re-accreditation pathway rather than blanket extensions.
Need help with the online process?
We recognise that some ROs may need support with the digital side of training and re-accreditation. If assistance is needed, ROs should ask their club or State/Territory association for help, and the NRAA can assist where required. We want a smooth transition and do not want to lose good people simply due to digital confidence.
For questions, please contact your State/Territory Rifle Association in the first instance, or the NRAA office.
